Licence, until Easter, for James de Vetula, Atynus Previdal, Bonachamus, de Philippo, and Petrinus Decanus, merchants of Piacenza, to take 180 sacks of their own wool, which they have in the kingdom, which they bought for their own use of others than Flemings or Hainaulters, and which they can reasonably show to be their own, to any parts beyond seas, except such as are within the power of the countess of Flanders, the said merchants having made oath before the king's lieutenants in England that they [----] not take out of the kingdom wools or other goods into Flanders or elsewhither within the power of the countess of Flanders during the contention between the king and the said countess which recently arose between Henry III. and herself, and that they will not sell such wool or other goods to Flemings or others of the power of the said countess, nor make exchange with them thereof, nor deal by art or craft so that the said wools or other goods may come into the hands of the subjects of the said countess, nor receive any money from the Flemings for trading with wools or other merchandise to the behoof of the said Flemings, nor avouch their goods nor those of any other subjects of the said countess, the king with his council having ordained that if they attempt anything against their said oath, he will take into his hands, as forfeited, their wools or other goods found in the kingdom.

Bequest to the wardens of the fair of Cumpan to arrest Francis de Pysa, merchant, and all his goods and merchandise to the amount of 250l., he having, as attorney of Thomas le Gras, citizen of Aton, lately come to the king's presence and obtained 750l. instead of 750 marks for the construction of a barbican at Anton by the said Thomas, and having already got beyond seas.

Release to Eblo, vicomte of Ventadour, of 500 pounds of Tours, wherein he was bound to the king.

Mandate to Luke de Tany, seneschal of Gascouy, and Master Bonettus de Sancto Quintino to audit the account of the said Eblo while he was seneschal of Perigord, he having petitioned that it should be audited.

Mandate to the king's barons of the dioceses of Limoges, Cahors, Perigueux, and Saintes beyond the Charente, to make an oath to the king of France (as already required by Bouettus de Sancto Quintino) according to the form contained in the king's letters to them, they having deferred taking the oath, because, among other insufficient reasons, the letters aforesaid were addressed expressly to " knights " and not to " barons "; and the said Bonettus is to take into the king's hands the lands of all those who refuse, and shall hold them until they have obeyed. [Foedera.]

Mandate to Otto de Grandisono and Luke de Tany, seneschal of Gascony, to absolve the above Eblo from the seneschalship of Perigord committed to him in the king's name by the king's uncle, on his prayer to be relieved from it by reason of certain affairs which have recently arisen, and to receive from him the castle of Bourdeilles (Bordelia).

Writ de intendendo directed to all persons of the dioceses of Perigeux, Cahors, and Limoges, for the person whom the said Otto and Luke shall provide to be seneschal of Perigord in place of the said Eblo.

Appointment of Luke de Tany, seneschal of Grascony, and of the constable of Bordeaux to audit the account of Brun de Saya while he was the king's seneschal in the parts of Perigord and the Limousin.

Mandate to Master Adam de Norfolchia, king's clerk, constable of Bordeaux, to pay the following debts, if they are true, which Elias de Hauvill claims, and which the constable has refused to pay, to wit: —arrears of the account rendered to Easter term last by the said Elias and John his brother for the time that they were bailiffs within the land of Gascony; money received to the king's use from land of the said Elias in Gascony during his imprisonment there; money received by him to the king's use from a man of that land and accounted for but restored to the man; the custody of the castle of Bayonne from the said Easter term until Midsummer ; that of the castle of Saut from the said Easter until Michaelmas and his expenses in the castle of Geros' since the said Easter. The king wills that he shall be paid, as he is about to go to Wales, with others, on his service, and to stay there not without great expense.

Mandate to Orlandinus de Podio and his fellows, merchants of Lucca, to let Anthony Bek, constable of the Tower of London, have as soon as possible 50l. of last Easter term of the 100l. ordered at the Exchequer for the custody of the Tower.

The like to the same to pay Eblo, vicomte of [Ventador], 50l. for 200 pounds of Tours, wherein the king is bound to him.

Vacated because surrendered and cancelled.

Grant to John de Greilly of the castle of Castillon by St. Emilion, in the diocese of Bordeaux, and Gourzon, "with all their appurtenances (which Peter, sometime vicomte of Castillon, and his ancestors held or ought by right to have held), except the town of Leyburn and the parishes of Poineroch, Fouzer and Varvan ; also of whatever Bernard de Beivill and his ancestors sometime held or ought to have held in Langon by water or land ; to hold in fee simple at the rent of a sore goshawk at every removal (singulis amocionibus] of the lords of that fee.

Grant, in fee tail, to Alexander de la Peuere, lord of Bergerac (Bragearaci) and Gensac (Genciaci), in consideration of his homage, of the homage and service which John de Greilly used to make to the king for the above castle of Castillon and its appurtenances, which the said John held of the king; except the bastide called 'Leyburn,' which is said to be within the lordship of that castle, and except the towns of Fouzer, Varvan and Pomeroch, with all their parishes, all which the king wills shall henceforth be appurtenant to the said bastide of Leyburn, the said Alexander having quit-claimed them to the king for ever. A sore goshawk is to be rendered as often as the said Alexander and his heirs happen to do their homage for the same.

Mandate to Gicard de Burgo, mayor of Bordeaux, to deliver to Alexander de la Peuere, lord of Brigerak, the castle of Coynak in the bishopric of Perigeux; the king having commanded the seneschal of Gascony, or the person supplying his place, to empower the said mayor to do so.

Mandate to Luke de Tany, seneschal of Gascony, or the person supplying his place, to empower the said mayor accordingly.

Letters of the said Alexander, promising to surrender the castle aforesaid into the hands of the bishops of Bath and Wells and of Agen, Maurice de Credonio and John de Greilly, or other envoys to be sent by the king into Gascony, after 9 February next, as soon as he shall certainly know of their arrival.

Power to R. bishop of Bath and Wells and the bishop of Agen, Maurice de Credonio and John de Greilly, or other the king's envoys, about to go to Gascony, to hear all the complaints and demands of the said Alexander in any way touching the king and his person, and to do full and speedy justice therein without cavil or delay; provided he do the same with regard to anything advanced by the king against him for the time when he was lord of the honor of Brigerak aforesaid.

Recognisance by Bernard de Burdelia, esquire, of the receipt of the said 100 marks in his great need, on the security of the said castle, which he forfeits the right to enter; and under penalty, if he in any way go against this, of 1,000 marks, for the payment whereof he pledges the said castle, so that he may not demand it back until the 100 marks and the 1,000 marks are both paid.

Whereas the king granted to Eleanor his mother the pedage of the town of Myramand, with the passage (passagio curalli), the fishery (nassis), and the king's meadow there, to hold to her for life and to her executors after her death, quit of all fees, alms and charges whatsoever for 1,450l., until the said executors have raised 10,000 marks from the same and other things, which are contained in the letters patent, and the said pedage is charged with alms of the king's progenitors to the sum of 435l. 16s. 8d. of Tours, to wit, 400l. of Tours to the abbess of Fontevraud, 20l. Arn[aldenses], equivalent to 161. 13s. 4d. of Tours, to the hospital of Rossdevall, the like to the nuns of Condom, 60s. Arn[aldenses], equivalent to 50s. of Tours, besides 220l. of Tours which the count of Perigord exacts from the said pedage, as the king is informed by extent made by Guichard de Burgo and Master Adam de Norff[olk], in compensation of the said charge of 4351. 16s. 8d. of Tours, the king grants to her and to her executors after her death the salt-cote of Agen, for 500l. of Tours, so long as the pedage aforesaid is held by them, on condition that they yearly answer to the crown for the 74l. 3s. 4d. (sic) by which the 500l. exceeds the said charge, and pay to the above religious houses the alms aforesaid out of the money received from the said salt-cote ; but in case of the recovery by the count of Perigord of the said 220l. from the crown, the 74l. 3s. 4d. is to remain to the queen-mother and her executors and the crown will satisfy them of the remainder.
