Promise to Bertrand de Insula, in consideration of his affection for the king whereby he is moved to assist him against Philip de Valesio, claiming to be king of France, and of his intention on this account to give him bis castle in Kirsyn, called 'viscounte de . . . rayne,’ that whenever the king cither by way of peace or by the strong hand recover what has been taken from him in the duchy [of Aquitaine], lie will assign to him in fee the vicomte of Lomayne, which the said Philip has usurped, and that, if by reason of his aid to the king he lose castles, lands and rents he shall have compensation until he or his heirs recover their own, and that the king will not make peace with Philip unless the said Bertrand and his men in the king's service be expressly included in that peace. Pardon also of any forfeiture of his castles, lands and rents pertaining to the king by reason of his previous adherence to Philip or the king's enemies,                                             By K.

Grant in fee, in consideration of his readiness to help the king against the said Philip, to Gaston de Insula of a moiety of the castle and town of Vienne, pertaining to the king in right of the said duchy, now unjustly held by Philip.                                                                         By K.
