June 2, Westminster.

Order to the bailiffs of the port of Dover to elect one or two men of the said port other than those who are intendant on the office of gauging in the said port in the name of the king’s servant, Matthew de Columbariis, to levy and collect 4s. on each tun of wine of men of Bergerac coming to the port and to answer therefor with the arrears thereof.

By writ of the great seal.

Nov. 15, Westminster.

Order to Ralph de Sandwico, keeper of the city of London, to cause to be levied the custom of 4s. on each tun of wine of Bergerac coming to London from 9 April last, pursuant to the king’s order before his last departure from England, and to answer for the same at the Exchequer, as enjoined by the treasurer and barons, and to put in respite the arrears thereof until further order.

Nov. 26, Westminster.

Order to J. archbishop of Dublin, justiciary of Ireland, to take the custom of 4s. on each tun of wine of men of Bergerac and of St. Emilion and other laden at Pierrefitte or Leyburn, pursuant to former orders of the king.

The like to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer of Dublin.

May 8, Westminster.

Order to the sheriff of Devon to levy the 4s. on each tun of wine of Bergerac with the arrears thereof from 9 April, 16 Edward I, and to deliver the same to the king’s servant, Matthew de Columbariis, taker of wines of the king’s prise throughout England, or to his attorney in the county, who shall answer thereof; pursuant to a former order.

The like to the bailiffs of queen Eleanor, the king’s consort, of Lyme and Melecom, and to the bailiffs of Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, of la Pole, and to the bailiffs of Gilbert de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, of Warham.

Aug. 6, Silverstone.

Order to the keeper and sheriffs of London, after taking from the merchants of Bergerac and Limoges (Lemovicen’) 2s. on each tun of wine brought by them to London, whereon they have not yet paid 4s. and wherefor the said keeper and sheriffs are distraining them and their pledges, to permit them to make their profit thereof and to be quit of 2s. of the said custom until further order, the king having remitted the same to them during pleasure at the instance of Maurice de Credonio, the king’s kinsman and lieutenant in Aquitaine.

The like to Stephen de Penecestre, warden of the Cinque Ports, Peter de la Mare, constable of Bristol castle, and the bailiffs of Hull.

The like for the merchants of St. Emilion to the bailiffs of Ipswich, Southampton and Boston, P. de la Mare, constable of Bristol, Ralph de Sandwyco, keeper of London, and the bailiffs of Waymuthe.

Dec. 28, Westminster.

Order to the bailiffs of Hull, after taking from Hamo Box and Robert de la Grave, merchants of the realm, 2s. on each tun of wine brought by them to Hull in the past year whereon they have not yet paid 4s. and wherefor the bailiffs are distraining them, and on each tun brought by them in the coming year, to permit them to make their profit on their wines and to be quit hereafter of the 2s. residue; the king, at the instance of his kinsman, Maurice de Credonio, having remitted to the merchants of Bergerac and St. Emilion 2s. of the 4s. on each tun of their wines laden at Pierrefitte and Libourne and coming to England, which the king commanded to be taken, and wishing to do the same grace to merchants of the realm.

Dec. 5, Westminster.

Order to the keeper and sheriffs of London, after taking from the merchants of Gascony 2s. on each tun of wine which they have at present brought to London, whereon they have not yet paid 4s. and for which the said keeper and sheriffs are distraining them and their pledges, and on each tun brought by them hereafter, to permit them to make their profit on their wines and to be quit of the 2s. residue on each tun; the king, at the instance of Maurice de Credonio, deceased, having remitted during pleasure to the merchants of Bergerac and St. Emilion 2s. of the 4s. ordered to be paid on each tun of their wines laded at Pierrefitte or Libourne and brought to the realm, and wishing to do the like to the rest of the merchants of Gascony.

Commission to John de Wodehous, William Hunt and John de Gillyngg, chplain, in pusuance of an ordinance lately made by the king and council that the king should be answered for the fruits and provents of all alien holders of benefices in the realm, both cardinals and others, who are not resident on their benefices, in aid of the expenses which he is compelles to incur in the defence of the realm, to let at farm from Midsummer last the fruits and provents of all the possessions, both ecclesiastical benefices and others, pertaining to the deanery of York, which belongs to the cardinal of Périgord whether they be in the city of York or elsewhere in the county of York.

Inspeximus and ratification of letter patent (in French) of Henry, late duke of Lancaster, earl of Derby, Lincoln and Leicester, steward of England, and Lord of Bruggerak and Beauford, dated at the castle of Leycestre, Saturday the feast of St. Cuthbert, 35 Edward III, granting to his esquire, John de Ipre, for life, the office of sheriff of Lancastre, without rendering anything therefor; and grant that John shall have the office for life, provided that he answer at the Exchequer for all things belonging to the said office, as other holders thereof have done.
